“Penumbral Shadows”

An old, old piece of mine. And a short one. And one of my favorite things I’ve ever written. Nobody seems to like it as much as me. Still, here you go, galleons:

Time passes so slowly on an empty stomach,
But I am smooth and strong,
With a taste that lingers long after I’ve gone;
As cries of nightjars call the dawn,
We both shudder once, then still.
