You are reading a book that’s currently discussing Heisenberg, you read the following:
Five decades later Heisenberg was to recall those days [as a member of the Freikorps] as youthful fun, like “playing robbery and so on; it was nothing serious at all.” Perhaps. Or perhaps not.
And all you want at that particular moment, more than anything in the world, is for those final two lines to be an intentional, delightfully subtle joke on the uncertainty principle.
I laughed so hard when I got to those lines that I choked on my soda. If the author (who managed to write what is amounting to a fascinating book about Carl Jung and Wolfgang Pauli, so I’d like to think he’s an intelligent man) wrote that bit deliberately… I could die happy. I think it’s fucking brilliant.
